Pre-galvanised steel cable trunking is fabricated from sheet steel already coated with zinc before cutting, punching and press forming. It contains, protects and organises cable routes in factories, buildings, warehouses and technical areas with relatively dry conditions.
Pre-galvanised steel shortens the production process and provides an economical option. Actual corrosion performance still depends on steel grade, coating mass, cut edges, fabricated holes and the installation environment. The product should therefore be selected for the right conditions rather than treated as a universal solution.
The Sun manufactures pre-galvanised cable trunking to project dimensions, thicknesses, construction details and drawings, with matching covers, joints and direction-change fittings.
1. What is pre-galvanised cable trunking?
It is enclosed cable trunking made from zinc-coated sheet steel. The zinc coating is applied to the steel before fabrication, then the sheet is cut, punched and formed into a box-shaped trunking body.
Understanding the zinc coating correctly
The coating protects the factory-produced sheet surface. It does not mean that every cut edge, hole or fabricated area has the same protection as an intact original surface, and it is not equivalent to hot-dip galvanising after fabrication.
2. Why do many projects choose pre-galvanised steel?
Economical cost
It provides a practical cost level for suitable indoor and dry applications.
Efficient fabrication schedule
Because a separate post-fabrication coating process is not required, fabrication and delivery can be streamlined.
Uniform metallic surface
The original sheet provides a consistent metallic appearance.
Easy fabrication to drawings
It can be cut, punched and formed into project-specific widths, heights, covers and fittings.
3. Suitable applications
Use in factories, buildings, warehouses, offices, plant rooms and other relatively dry indoor technical areas. Where routes are exposed to prolonged moisture, salt spray, strong chemicals or severe outdoor conditions, consider a more suitable material or finish.
4. Trunking construction and accessories
A system normally includes the trunking body, optional cover, joint plates, bolts and matching bends, risers, drops, tees, crosses, reducers and support accessories. Coordinating these components keeps the cable route continuous and serviceable.
5. Reference technical specifications

| Material | Pre-galvanised sheet steel |
| Standard length | 2.5 m/length |

Common sizes
Frequently used sizes include 100×50, 200×50, 100×100, 200×100, 300×100 and 400×100 mm. The Sun can also fabricate to individual drawings.
6. How to select thickness
Select thickness by considering width and height, cable weight, support spacing and type, horizontal or vertical routing, future expansion, transportation and installation. Large or heavily loaded routes should be selected together with their support spacing and design load.
7. What does the zinc coating do?
The zinc layer protects the steel surface under suitable service conditions and gives the product its metallic appearance. Its effectiveness varies with coating mass, local fabrication conditions and exposure environment.
8. Cut edges and fabricated holes
Cut edges, punched holes, scratches and contact points need attention because they can be more exposed than the original sheet surface. Avoid standing water, use suitable supports and protect surfaces during handling and installation.
9. Manufacturing at The Sun
The basic sequence is material cutting → punching/cutting to size → press forming → fitting fabrication → inspection → packing. Production follows agreed dimensions and drawings.
10. Quality inspection
Inspection can include width, height and length; material thickness; trunking shape and accuracy; holes and joint details; surface condition; fittings; quantities and packing according to the order and project documents.
11. Transport, storage and installation
Keep products dry, protected from impact and stored off the ground. During installation, prevent unnecessary scratching, provide appropriate supports and avoid conditions that trap water or accelerate corrosion.
12. Comparison with other finishes
| Material / finish | Typical use |
|---|---|
| Pre-galvanised steel | Economical, suitable dry indoor routes |
| Powder-coated steel | Indoor routes requiring colour and finished appearance |
| Hot-dip galvanised steel | Outdoor or more corrosive conditions |
| Stainless steel | Food, chemical and demanding environments |
| Aluminium | Projects requiring lighter weight and corrosion resistance |
13. Quotation
Price depends on W×H dimensions, thickness, cover requirement, fittings, quantity, drawing-based fabrication, delivery location and material price at the time of order. Send dimensions, quantities or M&E drawings for an accurate quotation.
14. Fabrication to project drawings
Provide width, height, thickness, length, cover requirement, accessories, quantity and drawings or bill of quantities. The Sun will determine the manufacturing configuration and supply option.
Reference price information
Prices are quoted according to project requirements and may vary with steel specification, thickness, dimensions, fittings and quantity. Please contact The Sun to confirm quotation, delivery and lead time.
15. Frequently asked questions
Can it be used outdoors?
It is generally intended for relatively dry environments. For prolonged outdoor, wet or corrosive exposure, assess hot-dip galvanising or another suitable material.
How is it different from hot-dip galvanised trunking?
Pre-galvanised sheet is coated before fabrication; hot-dip galvanised products are coated after fabrication and are normally better suited to harsher exposure.
What sizes are available?
Standard and custom widths, heights and thicknesses can be made to the project requirement.
Is a cover required?
Use a cover where cable protection, dust reduction or the system design requires it.
What is needed for ordering?
Send dimensions, thickness, quantity, fittings, required cover and drawings or a bill of quantities.
